Lesson
Before you polish the screen, picture someone using it.

Good morning, Buildside! ☀️ Yesterday I was reviewing a visual concept for Offload, an app idea I’m exploring under RelayByte to help people unload their thoughts at the end of the workday. The design had a cozy notebook sitting at an angle. But that raised a practical question for me: how would someone actually type into it? Would the words look awkward? Were the separate thought cards all supposed to fit onto one page? I want my apps to be beautiful and have personality. The atmosphere, mascots and little details matter to me. But the writing experience needs to feel comfortable, especially in an app someone opens to clear their head. A direction we discussed was a flat, familiar writing area, followed by separate cards to review. The notebook could still be part of the experience when you finish. Working through this reminded me to look past the overall image and think about each tap, each word and what happens when the keyboard opens.
