Building around a day job changes how you think about scope

By Kyle

My day job is Head of Managed Services, with a background in IT and cybersecurity. Alongside that, I’m building apps under RelayByte. Trayage is live and helps people work through their Mac’s Downloads folder. Dwellmo is still in development and focuses on the practical information needed to run a home. Both start with everyday problems. But each extra feature brings more than development work. There’s testing, support, documentation and maintenance to think about too. My IT background makes that ongoing responsibility hard to ignore. A feature still needs looking after once it’s shipped. For other solo founders building alongside a job, how do you decide when a product does enough for now? What have you deliberately left out so you could finish the useful part?
