My mom’s whole calling experience is one button with my photo on it. It's pretty seamless. So it needs to handle failure cases seamlessly too.

HelloPorch tries video first. If I don’t answer in the app, it automatically rings my regular phone and we talk by voice. She doesn’t have to try again, wonder whether it worked, or figure out another way to reach me. It’s the same single press on her end. It’s one of the less glamorous details I’ve been working through: the product only feels simple if the failure cases are simple too.
