Lesson
Make the first useful step smaller
By Kyle
Good morning, builders! ☕ I work in IT and cybersecurity and head up managed services for an MSP. Alongside that, I’m building apps under RelayByte. A question that connects both sides of my work is: how much effort does someone have to put in before this tool actually helps them? In IT, the person using a tool needs to know where to start and what to do next. I think the same deserves attention when we’re building apps. We know how everything fits together. A new user doesn’t have that context. Trayage is live, and I’m still figuring out traction. With Dwellmo, the home handbook app I’m developing, I want the first session to accomplish something useful. Someone should be able to document the air filter they need or the instructions for their internet equipment and already have something worth keeping. They shouldn’t need to inventory their entire home to get started. That’s the lesson I’m taking into development: give the first small task as much attention as the bigger roadmap. I’m still learning what will help these apps grow. But making that first useful moment easier is a specific thing I can build toward and test. What can someone accomplish in their first few minutes with your product?
