SR&ED Lab, this week: 12 warm emails, 2 replies, and a link problem I didn't know I had
By Rick Wise
Update on warming up the new SR&ED Lab email domain before any cold email. Since Oct 12 I've written to 12 people I know. 2 replied. One found my first email in his Hotmail spam, which is why cold email moved to Nov 9 at the earliest. This week's lesson: a tool I used to draft emails through the Gmail API was quietly wrapping every link in a Google redirect link. You don't notice it in the draft, but spam filters do, and a redirect in front of every link is a classic phishing pattern. Now every outreach email is written by hand in Gmail itself, with plain links or none. Next: an Outlook inbox test on Friday. Cold email starts Monday only if that test lands in the inbox. If you're warming up a new domain: send one email through your real workflow, open the original message source, and check where your links actually point.
