Lesson
I’ve been so excited about my mom making her first HelloPorch call.

Then yesterday, I had a really frustrating experience with her care at assisted living. I left angry and worried, and spent part of the day writing an email I wish I hadn’t needed to write. I won’t get into the details. But it’s exhausting to have to push for care that you thought was already understood and agreed on. Especially when your parent can’t advocate for themselves. I’m building HelloPorch because I want my mom to have an easier way to see and talk to family. Getting that working feels really good. But there are things I can’t fix by building a better product. She still needs people around her who understand her condition, notice when she needs support, and follow through on the care she’s supposed to receive. That matters more than anything I’m building. I’m proud of the progress with HelloPorch. I’m also her son, still trying to make sure she’s being looked after. Some days, that part takes a lot more out of me.
