BUILDSIDE — EXPERIMENT JOURNAL For indie hackers building a bootstrapped product. https://www.buildside.app/build-in-public/indie-hackers Choose one question small enough to investigate. This is an editable worksheet, not an automated Buildside experiment or analytics feature. PRODUCT CONTEXT Product: Who it serves: Task it helps with: Current workaround: Link to the product or sample: EXPERIMENT JOURNAL Hypothesis — What do I believe, for which people, and why? Change — What single change am I trying? Observation — What actually happened? Separate behavior from opinions. Evidence — Where is the record, and when was it collected? Limitation — What cannot be concluded? Who is missing from the sample? Next test — What would help distinguish the remaining explanations? Decision — Stop, revise, continue, or investigate? Follow-up date: WORKED EXAMPLE (FICTIONAL) Clipnest offers client review links for independent video editors. Hypothesis: A project-based offer may fit editors whose review work arrives in bursts. Change: Present one client-review workspace as the unit of the offer. Observation: A reviewer asks whether a finished project can be reopened. Limitation: This question does not establish willingness to pay or repeated usage. Next test: Walk through a recent project with intended users and ask when they need the review link again. No measured customer result or pricing outcome is claimed. METRIC-CONTEXT CHECKLIST [ ] Period: record the start and end dates. [ ] Denominator: explain who or what was counted; include sample size. [ ] Segment: identify the user group, channel, or use case. [ ] Definition: explain what qualifies as the event or outcome. [ ] Costs: include relevant acquisition, service, or operating costs. [ ] Limits: record missing data, uncertainty, and other changes. [ ] Source: use product/business records for revenue and repeat usage. Buildside engagement and outbound actions do not establish product revenue or retention. PUBLIC UPDATE DRAFT I’m building [product] for [people] who need to [task]. I thought [hypothesis], so I tried [change]. I observed [specific evidence]. This does not yet tell me [limitation]. Next I’ll [test]. I’d value experience with [focused question].
