BUILD IN PUBLIC FOR AI PRODUCT FOUNDERS

Show what your AI does.
And where it needs work.

A useful demo leaves room for questions.

Give people more than a polished output. Share the task, the sample you tried and the limitation you are investigating. Buildside gives AI product founders a place to connect demos, focused testing questions and the updates that follow.

Friday might work. Let’s confirm after design review.

AI summary

Launch date: Friday.

Tentative became definite.

Priya

What evidence supports that date?

Fictional transcript and output. This example illustrates a failure, not measured model performance.

Let people inspect the awkward example.

A normal input shows the intended job. An ambiguous input can reveal what the product assumes. A missing detail can show whether it admits uncertainty. Use a small casebook to explain what you want testers to notice; run and measure evaluations in your own product workflow.

Same task.
Different outcomes.
More to learn.

Input (source note)

Friday might work. Confirm after design review.

Expected behavior
Keep the date tentative and retain the condition.
Illustrated output
Launch date: Friday.
Review question
Would someone act on a commitment that was never made?

A selected example does not establish reliability across other meetings.

Editorial casebook, not a live model test.

Define useful before you ask for feedback.

Choose a task-specific criterion that a tester can check. For meeting notes, the question may be whether a decision is supported by the source and whether uncertainty survives the summary. Ask people to explain the mismatch they see. Track version, sample selection, latency or cost only when they matter and you have measured them.

Task
Preserve the meeting’s actual decisions.
Evidence
Point to the source statement.
Limit
One example cannot establish consistency.

An impressed reaction is not an evaluation.

Demo question

A tentative date became a deadline.

I’m checking whether the summary preserves uncertainty. Which wording would make the source’s condition clear?

Jamal

Keep “might” and the review condition together.

Next test: compare clear, tentative and missing-owner examples.

Illustrative discussion. No reply or improvement is guaranteed.

Make the failure part of the product story.

Describe the failure without disguising it as a successful result. Explain why it matters to the user, what you plan to change and which cases you will check next. After testing, share the evidence you actually collected and any limits that remain.

A demo people can question.

Use the demo evidence checklist to package a sample, name the expected behavior and ask a precise review question.

What should an AI product demo show?

Show the user task, a representative input, the resulting output and a relevant limitation. State which parts are examples and which results you measured.

How do I get feedback beyond ‘looks cool’?

Ask someone to attempt or inspect a task and identify a specific mismatch. Explain the criterion and invite people who understand the underlying work.

How do I share a failure honestly?

Show what happened, why it matters and what you do not yet know. Separate a planned fix from a tested improvement.

Share the demo. Keep the evidence close.

Give the next conversation a task, a sample and a question worth investigating.
